Resources

When I started my journey of healing, I stumbled around finding tools to assist or complement what I was doing. I was open to everything and anything that could help alleviate what I was going through. Here are some I recommend.

Always remember, emotions are really energy-in-motion.

If you ignore them or bottle them up, those emotions will fester, build-in pressure, and then release sometimes explosively, sometimes seeping into all areas of your life like polluted water, sometimes sharpened to a lethal blade that shreds you from the inside.

If you are struggling, seek the help of counselors, therapists or pastors. You don’t have to suffer alone or in silence.

Every resource listed can be used in combination.

Music

Everything in life has a frequency. When we intentionally use music to synchronize our brain waves into certain states, such as theta brain wave, you can override your overstressed mind and begin to physiologically relax.

The free option: Binaural Beats.

  • Wear EarPods or a headset. This will bi-laterally activate your brain when listening.
  • I prefer a meditation with a theta wavelength, but there are many options oriented towards specific symptoms.
  • You can also search for subliminal messages in the music. Check out what they have listed to make sure the messages are what you are looking for.

You can find free Binaural beats on YouTube (with the above-mentioned specifications), or channels on Pandora, Spotify, or for-sale albums.

Wherever you get the music, please use discretion and awareness with the music you choose.

The app I highly recommend: Brain.fm

They used fMRI and EEG’s of the brain to make functional music to guide you into a specific mental state.

I use this app daily for focus and meditation—and when needed, for anxiety reduction and sleep. I’m such an advocate of it, I became an affiliate to get you guys a discount.

Art

Drawing and coloring are relaxing and soothing techniques for many people.

Here is a video a friend of mine created to help relieve anxiety through art. If you like this video, check out her YouTube channel because she offers different artistic approaches to help reduce anxiety through art.

Meditation

Meditation is something I had to build up to. Sitting and quieting my mind is always a challenge, as I am sure you can relate. I started with guided meditation and lasted a single minute. Each minute built, though, and with each one came a sense of settling into myself. Highly recommend.

Things I have done to achieve this:

Long walks alone. No music, no distractions. Just me, my thoughts, and nature.

I meditate to music, always with a theta brain wave synchronization and, in the beginning, guided.

I use YouTube.

I use Insight Timer. It’s free and tracks your daily meditations. I get competitive with myself and track the days. My longest run so far was 408 consecutive days.

I use Brain.fm

Gratitude Journal

Irrefutably, doing this changed my life. Do it. Can’t find things to be grateful for?

Join the Maravilla Tribe on Facebook or e-mail me for a list.

I used any journal or composition book and filled them. Check out the journals I created.

Yoga

Developing a practice to ground myself in my physical body was a keystone piece of my evolution.

In my early twenties, my anxiety was so intense my skin would crawl with discomfort. My relationship with my body was toxic, a reflection of how I was emotionally feeling about myself.

Then I stumbled across Baptiste Power Yoga.

The sweat, the heat, the intensity of the practice grounded me in my body in a way I had never experienced before. I stopped drinking. Smoking. Ate cleaner. Drank water. All because with yoga my body felt better, and the changes enhanced the feeling of wellness.

Yoga changed my relationship with my body.

What's your relationship with your body?

It doesn’t have to be yoga, or intense, or a workout for an hour a day.

Find your own practice of centering into your physical body with movement.

If you live in NH and want to join my yoga community, my home studio is Sol Power Yoga.

I also deeply love NH Power Yoga, as this is the studio where it all began for me.
