I hadn’t really known him while growing up, in fact, I don’t recall mention of him at all until I moved in with my grandmother in 2005 to help her. He was my great Uncle, a decorated war hero, and a very loving and supportive brother. He would call my grandmother often and they would spend hours chatting on the phone about whatever… it was cute.

I got to chatting with him too and soon, we hit it off as well. After a year, I left my grandmother and move to New York, and somehow along the way, we stayed connected. During my years in NY, I had a very strained relationship with some of my immediate family and I had felt really disconnected with them overall. Yet he was always there for me. He would listen, he would help guide me, he would share stories, he encouraged me and helped me strive for my dreams, especially even if they looked a little scary to those on the outside. He was my rock… he was always there. Day or night, always there, all I had to do was call.

My love for my great Uncle Ted is tremendous and I find it hard to express, my heart actually hurts with writing this. We are no longer this tight. The last time I saw him, he was 97 years old. I miss him. Our talks, our connection, our love. I have never stopped loving him.
