I just turned 42 Sunday. Then yesterday I got engaged to my very best friend. Sounds romantic right? It was…. on the one sunny day we’ve seen in what seems like a month and on the gorgeous marginal way in Ogunquit. The day was absolutely perfect. Our friends and family are thrilled. We spent the day doing so many fun tourist things and collecting love from strangers. An old man kissed my hard. At breakfast they gave us mamosas. Literally a perfect day!
But every love story has a back story and Kevin’s (my fiancé) was of a boy who grew up without running water or shoes on the island of Antigua. He eventually came to NY at the age of 14 and moved to MA at 29 to marry someone he met at a wedding. A gorgeous daughter came out of this union but not much else to write home about except $10,000 of debt.
I on the other hand geee up “well” in a home where I was given more than most. But what I wasn’t given was any good role models in the love department. My parents fought constantly. I prayed for them to get devorced. I grew up not trusting love and knowing it’s doomef to fail. After 10 years of painful (great stories for another time) online dating I finally met the man who would change all of these views. Who knew at 40 I’d finally find the one I’m met to be with. I took the long road for sure but I got my happy ending!
