Imagine you are staring at a canvas surrounded by a vast array of colors; they seem overwhelming at first. All those choices, so overpowering that it helps you to focus in on a very small selection of them. You get comfortable with working with these colors and soon, you may even forget about the hundred more options at your fingertips.

Your artwork takes shape and yet; you feel restricted. You become bored of the colors, frustrated, judgmental, and you compare your canvas to others… or you settle and think, this is it. I just have these color options and I will make the best of them.

Cultivating awareness can an accident; in a frustrated moment the brush might be tossed onto the table, spilling a nearby color. You pause, pick it up, assess it, amazed you’d missed this color. Quickly you pick up the brush and return to your work, pleased with this new addition. It can be deliberate, you and a friend approach the tables together, looking to see what attracts your attention and picking those colors up to talk about and use.  There are many ways for us to become aware of our inner color spectrum; with each color, our inner awareness grows and our artwork transforms.

As creators to our own lives our awareness is like seeing and choosing the color pallet we have within us, surrounding us, and using them as tools to create the artwork of our lifespan. The more tool we use, the more depth and detail we are able to see, design, experience.
